Apple Photo Lab: Capturing Street-Style Fashion with Kèla Walker

This week I had the pleasure of taking a day trip to Williamsburg, Brooklyn to meet and see Kèla Walker speak about content creation. If you don’t know of her, Kèla is a media maven who has produced content for BET, Getty and E! News and hosted events for the Tony Awards and Met Gala! She was fresh off of this years Met Gala rocking the freshest ponytail you’ve ever seen! 😍

Apple labs provide a deeper dive into a creative approach by getting you started on a project that you can take further. Labs build on your existing skills.

Participants were asked to bring their iPhone and learn how to take fashion photos with storyteller and lifestyle influencer Kéla Walker. She discussed her journey as an Emmy-nominated TV host and producer. She also shared her favorite stories — from the red carpet to traveling around the world. We then had the opportunity to use our iPhones to experiment with lighting and angles to capture street-style images of our own.

The key takeaways from the event:

  1. Move, move, move!! 💃🏽

  2. Clean your screen sis! 🧽

  3. Angles and lighting matter!

  4. What’s in your background?? (check for corners)

  5. You don’t always need a photographer to slay the perfect shot! 📸

  6. Engagement over likes, if the content is good the people will come.

  7. Edit... Don’t OVER EDIT!!!

  8. Don’t over think it! Content is all around.

All and all, it was a wonderful event. Kèla’s team is friendly and professional. She is very genuine and gorgeous. From the three shots that I have posted to IG post the event, I have produced tangible and noticeable results and cannot wait to see what comes from consistent and thoughtfully curated content in the future.

If Kèla hosts an event or is on a panel and you can make it GO! You will learn, you will be inspired and you will be better for it!
