I won’t complain! Remaining grateful in times of uncertainty.
Many of you may not know this, I am a church girl through and through. My closet friends would probably tell you that my faith is what grounds me and absent from my loved ones, it is my most prized possession. Having grown up in faith, I was taught to have a belief to always look for the good in humanity and for a brighter tomorrow.
That does not mean a life absent from heartache, pain, loss, struggles and the like, however, my faith has always given me the notion that no problem or circumstance is too big or small to overcome.
Now if I am being honest with you, during this time of quarantine and physical distancing, I have had some pretty awesome days! I’ve connected with people in more meaningful ways. I’ve been able to continue to serve my community and earn income and I’m in environments where I am safe and have all that I need. I have a lot to be thankful for, that said I’ve also had moments of frustration, despair and unease about the future. It’s in these moments that I’m reminded of an old negro spiritual, “I won’t complain.”
I Won’t Complain
[Verse 1:]
I've had some good days
I've had some hills to climb
I've had some weary days
And some sleepless nights
But when I look around
And I think things over
All of my good days
Out-weigh my bad days
I won't complain
[Verse 2:]
Sometimes the clouds hang low
I can hardly see the road
So I ask this question, Lord
Lord, why so much pain?
But he knows what's best for me
Although my weary eyes
They can't see
So I'll just say thank you Lord
I won't complain
[Chorus:]
The Lord Has been so good to me
He's been good to me
More than this old world or you could ever be
He's been so good, To me
He dried all of my tears away
Turned my midnights into day
So I'll just say thank you Lord
I won’t complain
These words remind me to focus on the following when faced with difficult decisions and situations:
Be GRATEFUL!
Positive thinking creates positive results.
Ask questions!
Don’t deny your emotions, that said you don’t have to dwell in negativity. Feel and let go.
Pray.🙏🏾
All of my good days, outweigh all of my bad days; so I won’t complain.
Stay connected to the source.
These seven tips along with maintaining as much of my schedule as possible has allowed me to think less about COVID19 and more about the life after. I feel more connected with myself and my spiritual life and I cannot express enough how grateful I am during this season.
So ask yourself and journal your response to the following questions:
What will I do with this time?
What am I grateful for during this time?
How can I help someone else?
How do I feel during this time?
And while it may seem hard, don’t complain about what you don’t have or what you can’t do! Be grateful and make preparations to be in a better position; be it mentally, physically, financially or spiritually because trails come! You however, even in this time get to decide how you respond to the trails of life.
Be well and stay safe!
