Dating "LITuation" - Date Night, Meets Candle Making

Dating after divorce has been interesting to say the least.  However, what I do enjoy about this portion of my journey is self-discovery, meeting new people and partaking in new experiences.  I am always looking for fun, affordable and creative ways to get to know potential suitors, while exploring what my city has to offer.

Lawrence and Larimer is a local Denver boutique supplying a worldwide clientele with exclusive apparel, accessories and lifestyle supplies and occasionally hosts events to bring the “culture” and lovers together.  They recently held a DIY soy candle making class for nine people that I thought was a perfect date night experience. The class is easy for beginners and provided everything that was needed to make custom candles, including 100% soy wax, cotton wicks, a pouring pot, two 5 oz glass jars, and essential oils.

My date for the night and I were one of the last couples to show up to the event.  When we finally did arrive, everyone was mingling and getting to know one another.  John “JC” Chapman IV the owner and host asked that everyone introduce themselves and share a superpower with the group, it was a fun ice breaker that helped open conversation among the couples.  We were able to mingle with three other really cute and fun couples!!! Also, having others around took some of the awkwardness that can come with dating out of the mix.

Then we kicked off the official candle making process at two working stations, with four couples per station.  JC and his beautiful wife Keyonna (GIRLBOSS!!) had us pick out the essential oils that we preferred for our candle scents.  They had an array of scents to choose from (my candles were made with the scents of turmeric, ginger and lavender) , I was delighted with the scents that I choose for my candles (I’ll update the blog later with a fill listing of the scents that they made available).

Next, we turned on the hot plates provided at each working station and began the process of getting our water to the appropriate temperature to melt the wax. At this point, Keyonna began to instruct us on how much wax to place into the pouring pot to as we started making our first set of candles.  As one member from our group constantly stirred the wax, it was a good time to have side conversations to get to know the other couples better.  Being that it was a date, actually a double date, it was nice to learn more about the couple that joined us for the evening in addition to them providing more insight into my potential bae.

Once the wax was completely melted, we took turns filling our 5 oz glass jars with hot wax. The last step was adding our oils and stirring them into the wax. And with that I now consider myself a candle making connoisseur!!! In all seriousness this was great event and a great idea for new couples and those that are in long-term relationships. If this sounds like fun and you are in the Denver area check out the Lawrence and Larimer website and social media for more “LIT” dates.  As for my date and I, the flame is still burning.
